Spoilers Ahead for DanDaDan episodes 6 and 7!
DanDaDan anime has a variety of adversaries, the most influential of which being Turbo Granny. In episodes six and seven a new enemy, Acrobatic Silky was introduced who initiates a new arc and alters the plot.
Who is Acrobatic Silky?
Acrobatic Silky is a yokai, or spirit, who inhabits Kamigoe City, the anime’s major setting. She is the fifth occult figure, and the third to be introduced. Unlike earlier villains, she tests the Occult Duo’s combat abilities. Her primary focus is on a new character (Aira) due to a relation she formed with her in past.
Without getting into spoilers for the episode. Acrobatic Silky, a new yokai enamored with Aira Shiratori, is the Occult Duo’s most formidable opponent yet. She fights with agility, leg strength, endurance, and hair manipulation.. After overcoming Momo and Okarun, she loses the desire to fight and surrenders her aura to Aira for resurrection. Acrobatic Silky’s goals and tragic past are revealed following her sacrifice.
From antagonist to sad casualty
Acrobatic Silky appears human-emotional at first, but her actions turn her into an irredeemable antagonist, as proven in episode seven when her golden heart is put to the test.
Acrobatic Silky, a lady fleeing through the streets at night, expresses her guilt after taking life of Aira and requests Momo to assist her in self-sacrificing. This honorable deed reveals her past and adds to the fight’s entertainment value.
Acrobatic Silky’s Tragic Backstory
Momo uses psychic skills to transfer Acrobatic Silky’s aura to Aira, revealing the yokai’s past as a single mother. Acrobatic Silky worked many jobs to raise her daughter, but the joy she felt outweighed the difficulties. In a heartbreaking moment, yakuza men took her daughter because she couldn’t pay the debt. Unable to save her, she travels the city, hoping to reunite and end up jumping from a building.
Acrobatic Silky Rekindles Her Greatest Trait
Acrobatic Silky’s kindness and responsibility make her redeemable. She admits her action and makes things right, painting a complete image of a nice person who has lost themselves in the aftermath of tragedy.
A Tragic Glimpse Into How Yokai Are Created
Acrobatic Silky’s Skillset | |
---|---|
Abilities | Description |
Extraordinary Agility | Her quick speed, flexibility, and reflexes enable her to avoid powerful opponents like Okarun in his Turbo Granny form, primarily due to her acrobat skills. |
Enhanced Leg Strength | The acrobat, primarily utilizing her legs, possesses powerful kicks capable of causing human flight and resisting psychic holds. |
Enhanced Durability | The individual is capable of enduring significant damage from formidable opponents. |
Hair Manipulation | The character manipulates hair fibers to grab enemies or targets, primarily using her hair for movement around an area. |
Turbo Granny showcased the yokai’s battle abilities, but Acrobatic Silky reveals their humanity. Despite her animosity, Acrobatic Silky was a person attempting to survive and find happiness, which added lore to the anime.
Yokai are simply lost humans transformed into monsters.
Acrobatic Sikly’s traumatic past drives her to become a violent yokai. Thanks to Aira, she reminds her of her daughter which causes her to grow fascinated with her.
Episode seven reveals that fixation initiates the yokai’s final change, as evidenced by the violent treatment of Acrobatic Silky and the location-bound spirit. The metamorphosis of Acrobatic Silky adds significance, whilst the location-bound spirit is underrepresented.
Acrobatic Silky’s Appearance Is Critical to Her Character
- Fun fact: Acrobatic Silky’s spirit form transforms only when her obsession with Aira starts.
Acrobatic Silky turns from a little damaged woman with dark hair and a bloodstained clothing to a massive pale woman with hollowed-out eyes and a wide grin.
Her agility symbolizes her love for her daughter and her connection to her prior life. Her eyes are either covered or hollowed out, indicating her blindness from previous losses. These facts indicate that certain yokai will be altered based on their former life, with appearances carrying deeper importance.
Behind Acrobatic Silky is an urban legend
DanDaDan is recognized for its realistic depiction of Japanese folklore, which uses lesser-known yokai and makes little creative adjustments, as opposed to other anime that overuses recognizable characters.
Acrobatic Silky is most like Akusara.
The legend of Akusara, a massive pale woman with a big smile and a red outfit, spread throughout Japan in the early 2000s. She, like DanDaDan, is a trickster who inflicts curses on mankind, but they also have acrobatic abilities.
Akusara performs remarkable acrobatic skills to captivate others, but speaking with her curses them. The newest antagonist, Acrobatic Silky, is an emotionally charged figure and a mother searching for her child.
