Makoto Shinkai, the director behind hits like “Your Name” and “Suzume,” has announced plans to reveal his new film in 2025.
In a recent New Year’s message, Shinkai shared that he spent 2024 working on this project, expressing joy in creating a “new world that no one has ever seen before” with his team”.
Here’s what he said: “Happy New Year! 2024 was a year I spent working on a new movie. It’s a great joy to build a new world that no one has seen before from scratch with my colleagues. I’ll do my best to announce it in some way this year. I hope 2025 will be a peaceful year for everyone.”
Shinkai’s films includes notable works such as “The Garden of Words” (2013), “Your Name” (2016), “Weathering with You” (2019), and “Suzume” (2022). Each film has been praised for its beautiful animation and emotional storytelling, earning Shinkai a global fanbase.
In addition to his upcoming film, fans can look forward to a live-action adaptation of Shinkai’s “5 Centimeters per Second,” scheduled for release in Fall 2025. Hokuto Matsumura, known for voicing Souta Munakata in “Suzume,” has been cast as Takaki Tono in the adaptation.
