Pokemon Go Game Suspending Services In Russia And Belarus

One of the famous titles in mobile gaming industry, Pokemon Go, announced on March 11, that they will soon suspend their gaming services in Russia. Players won’t be able to play the game in Russia and it already disappeared from Play Store and Apple Store.

Niantic, which provides games for popular smartphones such as “Pokemon GO”, announced on the 11th that it has stopped offering games in Russia and Belarus. They made this move to protest against the invasion of Ukraine.

Statement from official Twitter handle of Niantic:

“We stand with the global community in hoping for peace and a rapid resolution to the violence and suffering in Ukraine. Niantic’s games are no longer available to download in Russia and Belarus, and gameplay will also be suspend shortly”

Not only Niantic but many big videogame giants took this step to show their support towards Ukraine. That includes, Activision, Electronic Arts, Take-Two, Ubisoft, Epic Games, CD Projekt, NVIDIA, Nintendo and Microsoft. They all decided to ban the Russian Federation and Belarus from their commercial activities.

Niantic, on March 3, announced that it raised $75,000 internally by matching employee donations. The company also donated $200,000 “directly to humanitarian organizations focused on supporting the people and refugees of Ukraine.”
