One of the biggest anime streaming service, Crunchyroll (owned by Sony) announced that they are forced to suspend anime streaming service in Russia. It is because of current situation surrounding the country’s invasion of Ukraine.
This morning, Crunchyroll made an announcement regarding to its anime streaming services for Russia. In the announcement they mentioned that they are forced to stop anime streaming services in Russia due to disruptions in payment and service support.
As you all know payment services are currently not working in Russia. Google and YouTube had recently stopped selling online advertising in Russia following similar pauses by Twitter Inc and Snap Inc after Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. With all that going on, Sony-owned anime streaming services, Crunchyroll and Wakanim are forced to stop their services in Russia.
Running Crunchyroll from Russia will now show you an error and you won’t be able to enjoy their anime streaming services.
However, if you have a Premium subscription and have the Crunchyroll mobile app on your device, you can still watch anime that are already there. At the end of the billing period, you will not be charged for the subscription.
Netflix and Amazon Prime have also suspended their streaming services in Russia. Similarly, movie studios like Disney, Universal Pictures, and Sony Pictures have also suspended their film releases in Russia.
