Men Accused of Selling AI-Generated Obscene Anime Posters, Made 10 Million Yen!

Two men in Japan have been charged with violating the country’s copyright laws after creating and selling AI-generated obscene posters of popular female anime characters.

The posters featured characters from well-known series like Evangelion and Yu-Gi-Oh! and were sold online for profit.

Authorities revealed that both men used AI tools to generate explicit images of these characters. They then printed the images as posters and auctioned them on various online platforms.

This illegal activity quickly caught attention due to the growing concerns over AI-generated content and copyright violations.

One of the accused, a Yokohama resident, reportedly earned around 10 million yen from selling these posters between May 2023 and March 2024. The second man, from Shiga, made approximately 5.7 million yen between July 2023 and April 2024.

Both men admitted to the crime, stating that they resorted to this activity to cover their living expenses. However, their actions have raised legal and ethical questions about AI-generated content, copyright infringement, and the misuse of anime characters.

This case serves as a warning that authorities are cracking down on AI-generated content that infringes on intellectual property.
