The anime industry is growing larger than ever but did you hear about the news that multiple anime studios are closed due to ongoing virus? COVID-19 infection.
If one person has this infection, it can be easily spread to large numbers. We don’t know if it’s a cluster in anime studios, but there are covid-positive people appearing in some studios.
Last week, multiple anime industry professionals including animator that have worked on multiple seasons of My Hero Academia. They came out on Twitter to report that a few anime studios across Tokyo are shut down due to COVID-19 infections.
Tweets from the director:
He said “Although there is an implicit gag order, I have heard that at least one company has a cluster and the studio has been closed. There should be others, but no information flows. I don’t know when I will be a close contact. Dangerous waters. Why doesn’t the anime industry stop working? I know I can’t decide on progress or desk class.”
There is also an animator who reported that they know about five studios have closed due to an increase in number of COVID patients.
“I don’t know if it’s a cluster, but I hear stories about corona-positive people appearing in studios here and there, and stories about studio closures … I know about five companies for the time being, but I think there are definitely others.”
We got one more tweet from a designer replying to director Watanabe. Who said that he also knows two companies. It seems like this is more than just an issue. Increase in number of cases causing massive trouble for industry.
